Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) of the heart is characterized by the failure of development of the septum between the two ventricles of the heart. Failure of development of any part of the septum results in a defect. This abnormality usually develops before birth and is found most often in infants. It may vary considerably in terms of size and consequences.
