Stem cells are produced in the bone marrow. They are immature cells that have the potential to self-generate themselves into many different cell types in the body. Autologus stem cell therapy is when the patients own stem cells are used to treat the condition. Bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells are collected from the patient and then frozen and stored until they are needed. Alternatively, the stem cells originate from a donor, this is the allongenic approach.
With aging, cells begin to lose their function and ability to regenerate and repair tissue. This results in changes to the skin and other internal organs. The risk of diseases also increases. Stem cell therapy offers great hope as an anti-aging treatment. The collected stem cells can be implanted into the patient where they will self-generate into new healthy cells replacing the ones that are damaged. This will hopefully restore function of the organs and stall the signs of aging.
