The idea for forming a full-service medical travel company began when one of our executives, at that time an operating room nurse, was involved in a serious car accident and her healthcare didn’t cover reconstructive surgery. Friends encouraged her to seek more affordable care abroad in Costa Rica. Her background in healthcare caused her to be a critical patient, asking in-depth questions to vet the quality of care. In 2002, after an extremely positive experience, she assembled a group of practicing healthcare professionals and, under the name of Medical Tours International (MTI), set out to establish relationships with providers around the world and act as an intermediary for people in similar situations.

Physicians within the BridgeHealth network have internationally respected credentials, many of them with training in the United States, Australia, Canada or Europe and several hospitals are owned, managed or affiliated with prestigious American universities or healthcare systems such as John’s Hopkins, Harvard Medical International, Duke Medicine and Columbia Medical Center.
