An Apicoectomy (Endodontic Microsurgery) may be needed when an infection develops or won't go away after root canal treatment or retreatment. In this procedure, the gum tissue near the tooth is opened up in order to see the underlying bone and to remove any inflamed or infected tissue. The very end of the root is also removed. A filling may then placed to seal the end of the root.
