The total staff of our Neurosurgery Center is 54. The Neurosurgery Center is equipped with three-dimensional orientation, Robotic Operating Room, ECG Room and Neural Cell Culture Lab with total area of 2,100 square meters. The Center has 132 medical equipments, such as micro-electrode system, epilepsy knife systems, robotics systems, endoscopy systems, dynamic brain electro retinography machine, operating microscope and ultrasonic aspirator.

What is a Stem Cell?

Stem cell is basically a cell that does not yet specialized in the body. Stem cells have key features that separate them from other types of cells. They are:

• Unspecialized and renew themselves by dividing

• Able, under specific conditions, to become cells with specialized funcitons (e.g. nerve cell)

When a stem cell divides, the new cell can become a different cell with a more specific function, such as a heart cell, or it can remain a stem cell.

What is stem cell therapy?

Dr Tian Zengmin

Master of Medicine, Chief Physician, Professor. Vice President of the Chinese Navy General Hospital, Director of Neurosurgery Center, PLA, doctoral degree student advisor in China Second Military Medical University, Director of Naval Institute of Neurology.

As a famous expert in neurosurgery, Dr. Tian currently is the Executive Director of the International Society of Stereotactic Neurosurgery; Deputy Director of the Functional Neurosurgery Group, Neurosurgical Branch of Chinese Medical Association; Deputy Director of the Beijing Neurosurgical Institute; Director of the Chinese Medicine Committee, Beijing Medical Awards Foundation; Deputy Editor of "Journal of China Minimal Invasion Surgery"; Editor of "Journal of International Medicine Cerebrovascular Diseases "; Editor of the book "Modern Stereotactic Neurosurgery" and edited 20 other books.

Dr. Tian has published, as the first author, more than 120 articles in academic journals. In May of 1997, Dr. Tian applied the robot into the surgery, it was listed as one of Top Ten News of Chinese medicine field in that year. In 2003, Dr. Tian performed successfully the teleoperation between Beijing and Shenyang. It was the first case in the world and he has successfully carried out more than 1800 cases of operation by now.
