Breast Implants Explained

Enhance Breast Size

Why Breast Implants

As far as elective cosmetic surgery goes, breast augmentations are at the top of the list of commonly performed procedures. In fact in certain countries, a sizable portion of the female population will willingly admit to having undergone what is also referred to as a "boob job." Whether women who choose the procedure are simply looking to have breasts of an average size, or if they are interested in a decidedly more voluptuous shape up top, breast augmentation can do wonders for self-esteem. Once seen as a somewhat taboo procedure to undergo, it is now far more common to see women out and about with breast implants.

Breast Implant Surgery

Breast augmentation is a serious surgical decision, and it should definitely be weighed carefully. There will be the need for a recovery time, and you will require bedrest and vacation time afterwards. So it is important to know what to expect, and to be able to plan accordingly. Proper care of your new breasts after surgery is also key, and it is important to remember that implants sometimes require additional surgeries down the line, for repositioning purposes.

It is good to know, however, that breast implants are one of the most commonly studied elective medical procedures, and there is a vast wealth of knowledge for you to research when deciding whether or not it is the right choice for you. A number of different international studies have been conducted to ascertain whether or not breast implants are dangerous for one’s health, and a number of those studies have come back reporting that women with implants are no more likely to experience certain types of arthritis or illness than those without. It is obviously important, however, to avoid blunt force to your breasts, as well as to make it clear when receiving a mammogram that you’ve had work done.

Breast augmentation as a procedure consists of an incision, of which there are four options. Depending on the woman and the surgeon, implants may be inserted through the breast itself, or through the armpit or navel. The surgery itself takes one to two hours, during which time the patient will be fully sedated. Patients can also choose between saline or silicone implants, both of which are legal in all countries presently.

Saving on Breast Implants

Breast implants are one of the most expensive procedures as far as cosmetic surgery goes in the United States and the UK, whether you are going with silicone implants or a silicone replacement. However, in a number of other countries, a boob job is quite affordable. Particularly in Brazil and Argentina, where a large amount of the population unabashedly admits to having work done, it is possible to get yours done at almost half of the cost that it would be in the United States or Canada. Those in the UK and Australia frequently book their medical tourist trips to closer locations, like Poland and Thailand.
