What is a Buttock Lift?

Many individuals who feel they have less than desirable features on their backside turn to plastic surgery to help solve these issues. Modern cosmetic surgery offers a number of procedures that can address such issues through a variety of methods. One of the most popular is a buttock lift, a procedure that can produce very good results in enhancing the overall appearance of the buttocks and the backside of a human body.

Known by doctors as glutealplasty, the purpose of a buttock lift is to enhance the appearance of the exterior of the buttocks and reduce or eliminate undesirable effects such as dimples, scars and sagging while improving the overall tone and feel of the skin. In short, the desired result of a buttock lift is smoother, perkier and firmer skin on the buttocks. The procedure for a traditional buttock lift involves removing unwanted excess skin tissue from the lower part of the buttocks while tightening the tissue on the upper portion.

Buttock Lift Procedure

The procedure is somewhat invasive and usually takes around three to seven hours under anesthesia, though typically is done on an outpatient basis meaning that most patients can go home the same day. Some patients choose an alternative method known as a Brazilian buttock lift that involves fat injections to lift the buttocks and improve tone rather than removing and stretching areas of the skin.

Buttock lifts are often confused with body contouring and buttock implants which offer different benefits through separate techniques. These procedures are designed to change the structural shape of the backside and buttocks and their position and proportion to the body, as opposed to addressing the exterior appearance and firmness of the skin as treated by a buttock lift.

Buttock Lift Recovery

Recovery from glutealplasty typically takes around four weeks in total and the entire healing process should last around four months. It involves avoiding sitting, particularly during the first two weeks after surgery, as well as som light therapy. Some patients are able to return to work in as little as two or three weeks depending on the amount of sitting, however patients will not be able to engage in exercise or any strenuous activity for two to three months.
