Soft-tissue grafts are used to add more gum tissue. Some of the tooth’s root will be exposed if gums recede severely and this can make the tooth very sensitive and more prone to root decay. Some people can also not like the way it looks and others may have naturally thin gums which increases the possibility of the gums receding. In this case, a soft tissue graft can be done to prevent future problems. During this procedure, the dentist takes gum tissue from your palate or another donor source to cover the exposed root.
