Adhesiolysis or Adhesioloysis is a procedure which is carried out to remove scar tissue from inside the uterus and the reproductive tract. The scar tissue is usually a result of previous injury such as appendicitis and abdominal trauma. Pelvic adhesions are bands of scar tissue that grow causing problems such as abdominal pain and problems with fertility.
Adhesiolysis removes the adhesions with the aim to stop symptoms. It is a minimally invasive procedure and is usually carried out under and local or general anaesthetic. A small incision is made near the navel and a laparoscope is used to look inside the area and cut away and remove the scar tissue.
