Strabismus surgery is a reconstructive surgery carried out as a day-case procedure under a general anaesthetic. To straighten the eyes, the surgeon uses a combination of muscle strengthening and weakening procedures. Convergent squint conditions are corrected by the outer muscle of the in-turned eye being strengthened by removing a section of muscle.
